The Hotel Elizabeth Resort and Villas is a stunning complex of sail-wave-shaped structures located in Palawan, one of the most biodiverse islands in Southeast Asia. This project takes a unique approach to leisure-led development by incorporating familiar cultural elements with nature-centric design into twelve loft-style sectional villas, each strategically positioned to face the country’s longest stretch of white-sand beach, the 15-kilometer shores of San Vicente.

The villa’s form is inspired by the aerodynamic form of the traditional vinta outrigger boat, made of sanded-down concrete, local sand aggregates, and waterproof sealant that creates a textured quality that blends seamlessly with its natural surrounds. Each villa offers guests unforgettable views with its ramp-up roof leading to a sunset-view deck adorned with endemic vegetation. An indoor-outdoor living area on the ground level provides a view of the lush mangroves fronting the facility. The loft bedroom in each villa offers guests picturesque views of the expansive beachfront.

“The villa’s form is inspired by the curves of the traditional vinta outrigger boat, made of sanded-down concrete, local sand aggregates, and waterproof sealant that creates a textured quality that blends seamlessly with its natural surrounds.”

The lap pool is slightly lower than the villas, so as to merge seamlessly with the mangrove growth, creating a fluid transition between man-made and natural elements. Each villa also has a sunken bonfire pit that provides a perfect spot for intimate moments with loved ones. The pit is strategically placed below the path walk level, offering a clear view of the white sand beach while serving as a pool lounge.

With its homage to the Philippines’ seafaring roots and sensitivity to its prized coastal context, the Hotel Elizabeth Resort and Villas truly is a space where culture, nature and leisure find harmony. •
